As mentioned in my previous post, I’m off to the newly opened Forever 21 store in Birmingham this Saturday and sadly I am massively excited. I absolutely LOVED that shop when I was in New York City and went there 3 times. The online shop has also launched in the UK (which is even better as I can’t afford to drive down to the store all the time) http://www.forever21.co.uk for those of you that haven’t had a look yet. So after trolling through the site for longer than I care to admitt, I’ve picked out what I’ll be on the look out for.
Obviously something with stripes had to make it’s way in there. It wouldn’t be a shopping trip otherwise! I loved all of the shoes in fairness, although the dresses didn’t really jump out at me. I’m also looking forward to getting myself some new jewellery and hats and scarfs for colder weather.
This was my outfit today. Apologies for the bad quality photos but I got home late and all the natural light had gone. I hate using the flash! I wore my nans old coat for the first time today and it kept me so warm! I’ve never been a fan of anything fluffy but after wearing this I found myself drawn to all the fur coats in the shops today! I tried on this coat and LOVED it (minus the belt). My nan offered to buy it but I couldn’t let her spend £60 on me, she treats me enough already. I also saw another white faux fur coat in Topshop that was stunning but had an even hefter price tag of £95! I think I may be addicted… :) My dress is from a local shop where I live and everything in it is amazing and great value! That dress was only £20. I’ve bought a couple of things from there, but I rarely go because it is dangerous for my bank balance. But if you are every hanging around Chorlton in Manchester you should really check it out!
Tomorrow night I am going to The Comedy Club to see Greg Davies (Mr Gilbert from The Inbetweeners). I didn’t even know he did standup comedy but my friend bought us tickets! I really want to see more live comedy, I always have so much fun whenever I do. Next weekend is going to be sooo exciting! I have Harry Potter on Friday, Saturday i’m going to Forever 21 in Birmingham with laura which I am looking forward to a ridiculous amount (i’m going to spend SO much) and that evening i’m having a meal with some friends because they’re going to live in Australia for a year!
Anyway, time for a cup of tea and the new Company magazine.
For the last two years my foundation of choice has been Estee Lauder Double Wear (Ecru) and it has never faulted me. With a nasty price tag of £28 it isn’t cheap, but it is worth it and I have since converted 3 friends to this product. I normally buy a new one every 5-6 months so it does last a long time but then again I find I only need to use the tinest amount each time to give me enough coverage. The last time I needed some more, I accidentally bought the wrong colour (Pale Almond) which wasn’t quite right. Instead of exchanging it, I just bought another in my normal shade and kept the previous as my everday or work foundation. On Friday it ran out so I decided to get a cheaper foundation to use everyday, and I’d heard good things about Revlon Photoready (Vanilla) so I decided to give it a whirl! Recently I haven’t bothered wearing any foundation at all during working hours, but with winter setting in and my skin becoming paler I figured I need some colour on my face otherwise I’d look dead. Now i’ve only used it today, but I haven’t left my flat all day nor put any other make up with it – literally just the foundation but I needed 3 times the amount to give me good coverage compared to the Double Wear. To be honest, I could have done with using a bit more. The Double Wear is thick, which means I only need a small amount but it evens out on my skin brilliantly. The Revlon Photoready was very watery in comparison, which meant I needed more to make my face look even. Not a great start! Nevertheless, I’ll actually be leaving my flat tomorrow so i’ll use it in the morning and then see how it stands when I get home in the evening. Thankfully, I still have plenty of Estee Lauder left which I will continue to use for more special occasions.
As there was a 3 for 2 deal on in Superdrug on all Revlon products, I thought it would be silly of me not to take them up on their offer, right…..RIGHT?! Yes, i’m glad you agree. So I bought this nude eyeshadow pallet which I will try tomorrow and Vixen 570 nailvarnish. The nail varnish is a lovely colour and goes on very easily. Not too thick and not too watery. I tend to only buy either Rimmel or Barry M nailvarnish and they last me 5 days before I notice any chips so i’ll find out soon how this one compares!
I’m very basic when it comes to make-up, in fact I only started using eyeshadows a couple of months ago. My basic routine is foundation, bit of bronzer/blush, black eyeliner, mascara and either pink or red lipstick. As much as I love the natural look, I feel it’s time I started experimenting!
In other news, I’ve booked a trip to Edinburgh with my friend Chris. We’re going for four days inbetween Christmas and New Year. The last time I went it was with my family so i’m sure this will be a very different experience!
Oh what a busy week it has been! Apart from the usual working in the day thing I do, I’ve had lots of plans during the evening too. Firstly, last week I watched Frankie Boyle live which I was SOOO excited about because he’s one of my favourite comedians! Not many people can hack his humour but I love it. He was just as outragous as I expected, but I loved it. The next night I went to a Halloween house party dressed as a fairy and I got too drunk. I was still hungover when I took my Mum and Nana to Liverpool for a day of a shopping two days later. This week I’ve been testing my new found cookery skills again and I’ve invited friends over to sample my food for me. It’s all about trial and error, and everytime i’ve made something new, i’m instantly planning how I can make it better next time.
Pork Sausage & Sundried Tomato Pies
I made two batches, and took the second into work the next day for myself and my workmates to eat. I enjoyed the second batch more… mostly because I hadn’t slaved over them for ages before I ate them and also because I took them out of the oven a little sooner than the first. I should have cut one open so you can see the filling, but trust me they were amazing. I bought myself an apron from Laura Ashley seeing as i’m finding myself making a mess frequently.
Friday was Bonfire Night here in England so myself and my friend Chris went to Plattfields Park to watch the amazing fireworks. It really hit me how cold it is now and how much colder it’s going to get. I love wearing my mac coat and wooly hat, but I don’t love freezing toes and fingers.
We then came back to my flat and I made us our dinner, following a recipe out of a Marks & Spencers cookbook i’ve had since forever but never used. I made this again tonight for myself and my roomie because I didn’t get it exactly right the first time – trial and error!
Spiced Risotto Cakes with Mango and Cream Cheese
with sweet potato covered in smoked paprika and fine beans.
However, i’m taking a rest from cooking now as it’s an expensive and timely business! Tomorrow my roomie is making a lasagna for our dinner, which i’m muchly excited about as I love italian.
I also ordered my Christmas Party dress this weekend from asos. The dress I really wanted I decided not to get as it was far too expensive and i’d probably never wear it again. I hope when this one arrives, it’s as lovely as it looks online because you never know… but I have over a month to send it back and pick something else if i’m not happy.
Due to my roomie being an amazing cook and making dinner for me on numerous occasions, I figured it was time for me to repay the favour. I’m not a great cook – well actually it’s not that I can’t cook, I just never make the effort. I’m all for the easy and quick options, but I do want to try out some recipies I have stored up. Tonight I went for Chilli Cottage Pie, a traditional English dish with a bit of spice.
2 tsp of olive oil
2 tsp of cumin seeds
2 large sweet potatos
1 tin of kidney beans
1 tin of chopped tomatos
2 cloves of garlic
500g of mince meat
This is very easy to make. Heat up the oil in a large pan and put in the chopped onion along with the cumin seeds. Next put in the mince meat and stir until brown. Next put in the chilli chopped, the garlic crushed and the tins of chopped tomatos and kidneys beans, half a cup of water and stir. Put a lid on the pan and leave to simmer for 20-30mins. Peel the sweet potatos and chop them into chunks before boiling them in salted water. Wait until they are soft before turning into a mash, and season if you wish. Spoon the mince into an oven proof dish and then using a spoon put the mash over the top. Use a fork and even out the mash, making lines as you go. Then grill for 5mins on a high heat and you’re done!
Easy peasy! I’ll definitely try this again. My roomie helped herself to two more servings, and I must say myself it was very tasty. Let me know if you give it a try!
Quite a quick post this evening as i’m awfully tired right now, but i’m trying to make more of an effort to blog more. Work for the last week has been terrible, because the whole system is down. Someone stole the cables that connect us to the internet and the phone lines, which means NOTHING works! I’ve been doing minimal work whilst watching all my duties pile up and up and I know once everything is back on I’ll barely have time to breath. Nevertheless, this have given me time to read whilst at work so I’ve already finished Lauren Conrads Style. I feel like I should give it a proper review, something which I cannot do right now but in a nutshell, it was a nice and simple read. The pictures are lovely, the layout easier and split into good chapters. The content is mostly common sense, but I still got some good pointers when it came to looking after my clothes, doing my hair and makeup. I’ll focus more on these tips soon.
I went bowling tonight, which is something i’ve not done for ages! I went with my new roommate and we had a good time. She’s a lovely girl and we get along great already. She also likes cooking my dinner and she’s a FANTASTIC cook! Cookery is something i’m really not very good at, but i’ve got hold of some books and magazine articles recently so I need to repay the favour (and hope I don’t kill her in the process).
I’ve been making more of an effort to see friends recently and do things in the week to break up my working days (see above) but i’m finding this difficult when I’m trying to save as much as possible – well, possible for me anyway.
I have myself a list:
Make more of an effort with friends I don’t see very often.
Try to do one thing during the week that involes going outdoors, whether it’s the cinema, bowling, eating out etc.
Invite a friend round at least once during the working week for dinner, or even a cup of tea or go round to a friends.
Read the books I have on my bookshelf that I bought ages ago but still ‘haven’t got around to reading’.
DO LAUNDRY MORE OFTEN – i hate it.
Write down one thing each week, whether it’s a person or a particular sitation that inspires me.
That’ll do for now.
To finish off, here is what I wore on Saturday.
Annnnnnnnnd my new flats from Nine West HALF PRICE :o)
